TNT Post North Flying Fifteen Traveller Series

by David McKee 7 Oct 2011 22:20 BST

The four event Traveller Series drew to a close at Dovestone Sailing Club on 1 and 2 October 2011 having previously included events for Oxton Sailing Club (held at Burton Sailing due to insufficient water), at Bala and at Burton Sailing Club (for their own meeting).

This was the fourth running of the Traveller Series and this year produced 34 competitors and 14 qualifiers. Each event was sailed under the Boat Age Handicap System, the results taken from the separate individual open meeting events.

As for previous years there were strong showings from a number of Classic boats, however the key competition was again between the two previous winners of the series, 3959 Andy Goddard and Mal Hartland from Dovestone Sailing Club and Richard Hope and Scott Smith from Draycott Water Sailing Club sailing their new boat 3902.

The Oxton event (hosted at Burton) produced a new winner in Andy McKee sailing with Rich Jones from Dovestone Sailing Club later in the season to achieve 3rd place in the worlds at HISC. The event at Bala was won by Andy Goddard and Mal Hartland and the third event at Burton by Arthur George with various crews of the host club. Coming to the final event at Dovestone there were 5 potential winners.

The event was eventually won by 3959 Andy Goddard and Mal Hartland from the host club scoring two event wins thus securing the title.

Thanks go to the four clubs involved in this year's series, particularly to the competitors who took part and made each event an enjoyable and competitive occasion. The series was organised by Chris Swallow of Burton and David McKee of Dovestone.

The series was supported by TNT Post North and thanks are extended to them for the support that they have provided during the course of the last 4 years.

1st 3959, Andy Goddard & Mal Hartland (Dovestone Sailing Club)
2nd 3949, Arthur George & various crews (Burton Sailing Club)
