Flying 15 Classic & Silver Inlands at Llangorse Sailing Club

by David Hemmingway 5 Oct 2011 21:21 BST 24-25 September 2011

A total of 14 boats, including 7 visitors. attended this new event. The wind was a Force 2, mainly from the South (translated to Llangorse language "any direction it fancied").

The first Classic start was well contested resulting in 2695 Johnny Craddock being OCS & failing to return. Tim Tomlinson 2433 managed the shifts well to lead the race from start to finish. The local boats of Duncan Baird & Peter David followed up in 2nd & 3rd.

The Silver boats were led around by Nick Taylor (normally an Open Fleet helm) 3219 crewed by his brother Nigel.

Race 2 for the Classics was a repeat of Race 1 but with 2695 coming a close second to 2433. Dave Naylor from Dovestone was 3rd with the youngest helm Richard Apthorp in 4th. Interesting to see Charles in the front of an FF.

The silvers saw a change of fortunes with Alex Tatlow from South Cerney keeping the Taylors in 2nd. For Race 3 the Llangorse wind played a few tricks. Halfway up the 2nd beat it switched off leaving the fleet stationary. When they restarted Tomlinson led. Craddock managed to hit a mark. He then returned to re-round it (Learn the rules!!). This left it open for Bob Tait from Broxbourne to get a 2nd.

The evening was spent in the Red Lion with Curry & Beer.

For Sunday with similar wind the race officer Eddie Ramsden set a course with a good long run. The battle in the Classics was again with Tomlinson & Craddock. This time the honours were with Craddock who led all the way.

The Silver race proved to be a great battle between Taylor & Card. It took quite sometime but Card triumph in the end.

The final Classic race was without Tomlinson who had done enough to win the meeting. It was an individual recall which 2641 failed to return resulting in OCS. Even with a premature start Craddock lead after the 1st beat to record a second victory with Baird 2nd & David Naylor getting his 3rd 3rd place of the meeting.

The Silvers was won by the Tatlows having got rid of the weed they collected in the previous race.

Thanks to the Race Office Eddie Ramsden and all the visitors. Lets hope we can build on this for next year.
