Mini Ton Cup at Island Sailing Club, Cowes

by George Beevor 23 Aug 2011 14:45 BST 20 August 2011

Matt Hitt and his crew dominated proceedings to to take Dream On to victory in the Mini Ton Cup hosted by the Island Sailing Club in Cowes last Saturday (20th August 2011). Four wins from five races (and one disgarded second) gave the Copeland Fox Terrier victory and wrestled the title from last year's winner Shallot who were second overall, reversing the order of the Kemp Sails Mini Tonner Trophy in June's Round the Island Race.

"We had a brilliant time." Hitt commented after the regatta was completed "The event was really well organized by Matt [Atkins], and the Island Sailing Club did a great job of setting the courses."

Edwin Nabney was rewarded for consistant sailing throughout the day with third place on his Dehler Sprinter Sport Red Eye, bagging two seconds in the opening races.

The Solent Trophy, for vessels competing under the Island Sailing Club Rating System (as opposed to IRC) was won by Mark Kenworth's Hunter Sonata Tiger Rag from Rowan Horner's Copeland Harrier Meg and Andrew Bell's Hamble based Eau de Vie.

Full results for IRC and ISC can be found at the Island Sailing Club website whilst full details of the Mini Tonner Class Association can be found at www.minitonner.com

The aim of the Class Association is to promote racing of these small sailing yachts. Approx. 20-24ft LOA / (6.0 -7.5m) - that had an IOR rating of not greater than 16.5ft (see our Class Background page for further Rule definitions) and/or were built within the 'spirit' of the IOR Mini Tonner Yachts, where ever they may be.
