The O’pen BIC dinghy has been well received by hundreds of youth and junior sailors across the country with many adults taking note in the buzz as kids come off the water. When many sailors are thinking that it’s too windy to sail you will often find the O’pen BIC’s rigged and on the water, with whooping and hollering resounding across the waves. Any capsize that may happen is welcomed due to the fact there is no need to bail at all, and is easily outweighed by the shear thrill factor of surfing along in a performance dinghy.

The months of July and August represent a very busy time as the Tour continues to travel around the UK. They will be at the Leicestershire Inter-School Sailing Championships mid July, followed by visits to Rutland SC, Marconi SC, Herne Bay SC, Pennine SC, Christchurch SC, Royal Harwich YC, Crawley Mariners and completing August by visiting Sutton Bingham SC for the Dorset OnBoard Festival.

Steve Harvey, UK O’pen BIC Brand Manager, will also be taking a squad of 5 sailors to Yacht Club Ascona, Switzerland, for the 2011 World O’pen Cup at the end of July.

The WOC is the main event on the O’pen BIC international calendar and this year is no exception. There are currently 134 entrants, representing 10 countries, and the sailors everyone will be watching will be Brice Yrieix (FRA, 2010 Under 15 WOC Winner) and Geronimo Nores (USA, 2010 Under 12 WOC Winner). Also entered are the current Italian, Japanese and Brazilian age group champions, so there should be plenty of close racing and action on the water.

The GBR sailors competing at the World O’pen Cup are:

  • Matthew Smaller, Dell Quay Sailing Club
  • Rhys Davies, Clevedon Sailing Club
  • Rory Whybrow, Clevedon Sailing Club
  • Calum Terry, Rutland Sailing Club
  • Charlie Jeynes, Rutland Sailing Club

To celebrate GBR’s 1st representation at the World O’pen Cup, Ultra Sport Europe are offering all new boat purchasers, in July and August, a chance to win a full North Sails accessory pack worth over £260. The package includes – Blade Bag, Sail Bag, Gear Bag and Deluxe Boat Cover.
