All set for Friday and the Royal Escape Race 2011 start

by Steve Vyse 24 May 2011 13:52 BST 27-28 May 2011

Racing Documents Have Been Published

With the race fast approaching we have now published the Royal Escape Racing Documents including the Sailing Instructions, which can be downloaded from the website here.

We are not expecting you to download and print these out yourself, as a full set of documents will be provided to you in your official race packs (and thanks to the generosity of Hyde Sails every one of our 73 starters will now get a barrel bag to keep everything in).

Our intention in publishing online is so that you can have a quiet browse in advance and if you have any questions you can then bring them along to the Race Briefing on Thursday 26 May at Sussex Yacht Club (where you can also sign on from around 19:00).

New Sponsors

The Royal Escape Race is the focus of Sussex yachting and I am pleased to report two more valuable sponsors have kindly announced their support:

  • Newhaven Port & Properties Ltd are funding lots of liquid prizes to be awarded in Fécamp.
  • Premier Marine Insurance have donated a whole year of boat insurance to be awarded to one of our prize winning yachts.

Mike Stevens of SMR has been very active in garnering new supporters for the race so it is only fair for me to blow his trumpet (figuratively speaking of course). If you need last minute gear to see you accross the channel and through scrutineering don't forget his chandlery and rigging business is the best in Brighton and there's free and easy parking right outside... Southern Masts and Rigging.

Best wishes from John Davis

John Davis is the long standing holder of The Tettersell Cup, awarded for the fastest crossing which he managed in 7 hours 34 minutes and 22 seconds. He emailed today to say that in 1997 just before his record breaking run the forecast weather looked much the same as it does right now, so perhaps this is the year another boat may come up with just the incentive John needs to come and race with us again. John is a an ardent supporter of the Royal Escape and through his company BD Foods has sponsored the huge war flags that will go to every competing boat along with a substantial part of the Champagne Cocktail Prize Giving. Thanks John and good luck in your own RORC race this weekend out to the Eddystone and back.
