The Royal Thames Yacht Club’s Docker Cup – an award for outstanding contribution to yachting – was presented to Sir Keith Mills at the Club’s annual awards dinner in Knightsbridge, London (9th November). Sir Keith Mills was honoured for his major contribution to yachting over a period of more than ten years. Well known for his multi-faceted support of TEAMORIGIN, Sir Keith Mills was also thanked for his support of British long-distance racing, through Alec Thomson and Hugo Boss; his support of youth sailing; and of British Olympic sailors.
Founded in 1775 as the Cumberland Sailing Society, the Royal Thames Yacht Club can claim to be the world’s oldest continually operating yacht club. Since its first race in 1775, the Royal Thames has been at the forefront of participating in and organising world class racing events.
The Club’s glittering annual awards dinner saw over 38 individuals presented with trophies, including the Trafalgar Cup, which is among the Club’s oldest trophies and dates from 1802, when Nelson was still sailing the seas. The newest, made just a few months ago, is the Royal Thames Cup. Both trophies were made for the club by Garrard, the world’s oldest jewellers.
