405 End of Seasons at Staunton Harold Sailing Club

by Peter Perera 1 Nov 2004 13:00 GMT

Staunton Harold held the 405 End of seasons on the 30th and 31st of October 2004. 10 405s turned out and with the wind strength only reaching about 10mph at most we were all in for some close racing. We all turned up on Saturday, and much to our disappointment we couldn't see the lake due to the close fog and cold temperatures. We kept our heads high and thankfully the wind turned up right on time and gave all of us a challenge. We sailed 4 races on Saturday, 2 slots of back to back races. Race 1 Will Twemlow and Andy Bath had the best start and rounding the mark in 1st and riding the gusty wind down to the leeward mark, with Tom Gillard and Shaun Vernon close on their tail. The 2 boats stretched away from the fleet and took 1st and 2nd with Tom Wright and Nick Ward tacking 3rd. Races 2,3 and 4 were very close races as well with the top 3 boats giving each other a real fight to the finish. 1st and 2nd place switched between Will and Andy and Tom and Shaun in races and Alex Summerfield and Peter Perera tacking 3rd. Sunday was looking to be a interesting day with only 4 points between 3rd and 5th and 1st and 2nd on equal point, we were in for a good day of racing.

Sunday and with 2 races planed and no wind until 11:30 the racing was shard with the club sailors. The gun went and Tom and Shaun were gone and 3rd place Alex and Peter last of the line because of having to do penalty turns.

There was a lot to be done. Tom and Shaun took 1st, 2nd went to Tom and Nick, 3rd to Andy Wood and Ali Mcinnes, 4th was Taken by Will and Andy and 5th went to Alex and Peter. The 2nd race was abandoned because the wind disappeared. 3rd, 4th and 5th place were doing the math, trying to work out who took 3rd.
