405 Inland Championships at Notts County Sailing Club

by Team Burgess 26 Jun 2007 09:29 BST 23-24 June 2007

Seven races were held over the two days and the seven boats that entered made the most of the break in the rainy weather. Despite light winds with some variable directions for the first two races on Saturday, the crews made the most of what turned out to be a sunny and warm afternoon, providing good entertainment for the spectators at the club house. Unfortunately, the wind dropped to almost nothing for the start of the third race of the day but filled in a little for the last.

Sunday was cooler, with the threat of rain which appeared later in the morning. The wind direction had changed round completely to the day before but all boats dealt with these changes well. The last race of the event was the closest run, with all boats making serious challenges for the lead.

It was a pity there were not more 405s entered for this event, but those that did take part enjoyed good competitive sailing. Northern interests were reflected in the 2nd and 3rd places, and the home club’s two novice boats sailed extremely competently against the more experienced Midland boats. Well done to everyone who took part.
