The Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association will be holding its 11th National Rally at Llyn Clywedog in mid Wales over the August Bank Holiday. All boats designed before 1965 and built before 1985 are welcome. We use age and “state of tune” based handicaps, with a starting point of what the handicaps were in 1965. We would especially love to see more boats built during the 1940’s and 50’s, that amazing period of dinghy development which still shapes the dinghy scene today.
We regularly have some very early Merlins (and Rockets) sailing with us, also clinker built National 12’s and Fairey Marine built boats, such as Jollyboats, Albacores, Finns and Fireflies. Some of these sport cotton sails and wooden masts, and look absolutely wonderful. We also have some rare beasts, such as a very early Hornet built in 1953, complete with original mast and sails, and a Jack Holt hard chine International Canoe, from long before the One Design Nethercott hull we associate with the Canoe these days.
So if you are an owner of such a craft, why not pop over to Wales for a delightful weekend of Classic and Vintage dinghy racing over the August Bank Holiday? More information can be found by following the link on the front page of our website, www.cvrda.org
