Special Olympics* BVI and Sailability** BVI recently join forces to sail 64 miles around Tortola in 3 days to raise funds to compete at RYA Sailability Multiclass Regatta being held at Rutland Sailing Club from 13th - 15th August 2010.
Their route took in the Beach Club on Cooper Island, one of the gem-like out-islands, the other side of the Sir Francis Drake Channel; Stanley's Welcome Bar in Cane Garden Bay, over the mountain from Road Town on Tortola; Foxy's Taboo on Jost van Dyke Island, four miles long and known as the "barefoot" island whose main street's a beach and the Jolly Roger Bar on the water's edge at the entrance of Soper's Hole on Tortola and then back home to Sea Cows Bay. Tough life, but then someone has to do it – and why not the Sailability folk?

* The Special Olympics - for people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics is often the only place where they have an opportunity to participate in their communities and develop belief in themselves. Many live lives of neglect and isolation, hidden away or socially excluded from full participation in schools or society. For athletes, Special Olympics sports provide a gateway to empowerment, competence, acceptance and joy.
** RYA Sailability is the charity of the Royal Yachting Association which offers people who think they can’t even get on a boat, let alone sail it, the chance to have a go. Come and join us to help raise funds and awareness of this great charity. Meet our sailors to hear first hand how wonderful the gift of sailing really is. With your help we can continue to make sure thousands more people with disabilities get out on the water. Please help us to make disability plain sailing.
