Despite a lack of wind, a successful Old Boats Weekend was held on the River Trent at Nottingham Sailing Club on 5th and 6th June. Using the principles promoted by the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghies Association, thirteen boats built to pre-1965 designs and at least 25 years old, competed in races under the 1965 Portsmouth Handicap numbers. These included Albacores, GP14s, Solos, an Enterprise, a Finn and a Firefly.
A total of four races held over two days saw four different winners, and representatives of three clubs in the prizes. Overall winner was Steve Bailey of Nottingham Sailing Club in Albacore 197.
Pursuit Race won by Bill Sylvester (NSC) singlehanded, in Firefly 3008
1st Race won by Sam Mason and Rachel Conway (Hykeham), in Albacore 6812
2nd Race won by Clive Gimson (Melton Mowbray), in Solo 1525
3rd Race won by Steve Bailey and Josef Stoger (NSC) in Albacore 197
Together with the social evening, a great time was had by all in a very relaxed atmosphere. Our thanks to the CVRDA and Peter Vinton of Staunton Harold for helping set this up. Hopefully the first of many.
