The 10th Middle Island Regatta hosted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) was held on 17 and 18 April 20, at RHKYC's Middle Island site and on the waters off Deep Water Bay / Repulse Bay / Stanley.

The Middle Island Regatta is open to all classes of Dinghy and since 2009, this event has been designated as a Hong Kong Optimist Dinghy Association (HKODA) Ranking Regatta, one of six held each year. These rankings not only show the progress of the sailors through the season but the results are also used to decide who will represent Hong Kong at the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) Worlds and Asian Championships. There are currently over 50 sailors in the rankings.

The Middle Island Regatta, featuring over 90 sailors from RHKYC, Hebe Haven Yacht Club, Aberdeen Yacht Club, the Sail Training Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Sea School, received over 80 dinghy entries in the following divisions:-

  • Optimist Class (where a majority of sailors are aged under 12)
  • Division A (Fast Division) (classes of dinghies include Blaze, Laser, Laser Stratos, Laser 2000, Laser Radial, RS 600)
  • Division B (Slow Division) (classes of dinghies include Laser 4.7, RS Feva, RS Q¡*Ba)

Each of the above divisions were originally scheduled with two races on Day 1, due to gusty wind condition, Race 1 of Divisions A & B were abandoned. On Day 2, the Regatta was able to continue with 3 races for each division.
