British Moth Open at Chippenham Sailing & Canoe Club

After several years of warm sunshine, but very little wind, the 2009 The Chippenham Sailing Club British Moth open meeting was held under grey skies, but was blessed with a decent force three to four south Westerly breeze. Three visitors joined with the home fleet to make for a challenging but interesting day’s sailing.
Local hero, Andrew Perrot won the first two races despite the close attention of Gary Tompkins St Edmundsbury leaving Mark Bartlett and Andy Bourn from the home club to dispute third in both races. The third race saw Tomkins gain some revenge, winning the dash to the line by half a boats length; thus it was Andrew P’s turn to to take “The Wheelbarrow” home.
After Saturdays’s exertions it was decided to bin the informal Sunday program, and Andrew Perrott led the visitors on a cruise to the uncharted part of the river upstream of the club (very narrow, very shallow and many fallen trees, cows etc to navigate around). This was followed by lunch and a collection that raised over £60 for the Help for Heroes Charity.
