The Henri Lloyd Mentor Scheme coaching day with Ben Ainslie CBE, took place on the 17th August at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, with the Mentor scheme winners James Dodd, 14 from Barton on Sea, and Lydia Ream, 14 from Kingston upon Thames.
James and Lydia, whom are both Cadet sailors were sailing with their crew’s; Max Crowe and Issie Speirs respectively, were selected by Ben from an entry list of over 150 young sailors who entered the Henri Lloyd competition. As well receiving a day’s coaching with Olympic Gold Medallist Ben Ainslie, they also received £500 to go towards their sailing costs from Henri Lloyd and £300 worth of Henri Lloyd kit each.
James and Lydia, are both competing in the Cadet National Championships which are taking place at Pwllheli Sailing Club from the 22-28th August, therefore the coaching session focused on starting practise, sailing in tides and downwind gybing, the sailors also benefited from a post sailing debrief and video session with Ben.
Ben Ainslie commented, “It has been a fantastic day on the water with the winners of the Henri Lloyd Mentor scheme, they were a real pleasure to coach and I wish them the best of luck at the Nationals”.

“We had such a fun day, and the video debrief was really helpful. I have defiantly improved some important element of my sailing in the lead up to the nationals, thank you!” Lydia Ream.
A big thank you to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club for hosting the day and providing the safety RIB.
