The fifth consecutive Pick Everard Construction Industry Regatta was held on Friday 3 July, with light winds and fair conditions providing a clement backdrop to a well-supported event.

Sponsored by architectural and engineering practice Pick Everard, the Construction Industry Regatta is held every summer at Rutland Water Sailing Club, near Oakham and providing a golden opportunity for key members of the UK's construction industry to use their sailing skills to compete against other firms.

A fleet of 34 boats took part in three races, with the fixture open to all dinghies and multi-hulls with a Royal Yachting Association PY handicap. The majority of teams comprised representatives from a mixture of companies, including Vinci Construction, Cunningham Lindsay, Faber Maunsell, Halcrow, Lamberts Chartered Surveyors, The Morton Partnership and Leicester City Council. Individual first place went to Peter Gray and Simon Forbes of Team Stadia who sailed to victory in a Fireball dinghy. Team Stadia's Ian Kelly and Pete Elver finished second in their Fireball and Ian Kelly also claimed first place in the over 45s category. Penny Gibbs, of Team Oriel - also in a Fireball - finished third individually. Elsewhere, team spirit was very much in evidence, with Team Stadia taking first position from under the nose of Seabrook Developments' Team B.

Team Lambert & Mortons finished in third place, while Allen Burrell and Nick Radley, both of Seabrook Developments and commandeering Phantoms, took second and third positions in the over 45s category.

Pick Everard's Jonathan Adams, who organised the event, said: "There was light wind to accompany the start of the first race, but the wind really filled in for the remainder of the day, allowing some skilled sailing and a great deal of fun. Congratulations go to Peter Gray and Ian Kelly, as well as Team Stadia."
