UK Wayfarer Association Awards 2008/9

The UK Wayfarer Association joined with new class builders Hartley Laminates on the stand at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show to help present the exciting range of Mark IV Wayfarers. New versions of the classic boat are attracting serious buyers from individual racers, casual cruisers and training schools. With order books full until early summer, the new builders are busily satisfying the increase in demand.

Following the UKWA AGM, which takes place annually during the Show, the UKWA Trophies were presented as follows:

Cruising Trophies:

Viking Long ship Trophy
This trophy was originally donated by Frank Dye and was awarded this year, for the best cruising log received during the year. Winner: Dave Barker W 6151.

Piers Plowman Trophy
Awarded for the best cruising article published in Wayfarer News. Winner: Gavin Eadie W 9791.

Golden Bucket Trophy
For services to cruising, donated, and made by Ralph Roberts the current Commodore. Awarded for her excellent YouTube video recordings to: Kate Mellor W 1162.

Racing Trophies

The Travellers’ Trophy
Awarded to the highest placed sailor from 5 of 8 events on the National Circuit. Winner: Colin May W 9068.

The Mary Hinton Trophy For best results in Open and Championship events. Winners: Martin Collen and Tom Preston W 88.

The Neil Rushton Trophy
For most improved helm. Winners: Mike and Mark McKechnie W 10510.

Ian Proctor Memorial Trophy
Awarded by Chairman Quentin Strauss for outstanding services to Wayfaring to: Sarah Burgess W331.

Wayfarers at Datchet Water
