New Hurricane 5.9 mainsail at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show

by Ellie Williamson, RYA 3 Mar 2009 17:03 GMT Stand B18, 7-8 March 2009

The Hurricane 5.9 Class Association will be showing their new improved one design mainsail for the first time in the UK at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2009.

Following a full season of development with Hyde Sails, AW Sailboats and a wide selection of Hurricane owners, the development programme feedback highlighted much improved handling, better performance and of course a more modern look!

The new sail shape takes advantage of the latest high aspect square top sail design and modern materials. A number of other modifications to the existing rig have also been made and are being demonstrated on the show boat (stand B18) including a 16:1 cascading downhaul system, a shortened boom length which has been raised higher at the front end for greater crew headroom. All the aforementioned can be achieved at a marginal cost with exceptional handling benefits. The mainsail and downhaul kit will be supplied at a special introductory price for the first part of the season, for more details visit the stand or contact Andy Webb,
