Gul RS200 Nationals at Hayling Island Sailing Club - Day 4

Roger Gilbert doesn’t win a race shock!
The 138 boat RS200 fleet started race 7, for the Gul Wooden Boat Trophy started in a steady force WSW breeze. The fleet got away at the first attempt, with the fleet bunching at the right hand side of the course and creating quite a fight to get around the back of the guard boat.
Those who had started early though came out smelling of roses, with a nice left hand shift half way up the beat. Dave & Jane Hivey made the most of this, to claim their first win of the series. Ben Saxton/Kate MacGregor carried on their excellent week to post a 2nd, with 29er World Youth Champion James Peters/Alan Roberts in 3rd.
Race 8 for the Purple Marine Trophy started in similar conditions, but with the wind oscillating back and forth a bit more than previously. Following his disastrous 4th in the first race, Roger Gilbert/Jane Willan put the world right again and romped to victory, revelling in the conditions. The rest of the fleet saw good tussles throughout, with James Peters/Roberts cementing an excellent day with a 2nd and Marshall King/Emma Clarke in 3rd.
With two more races to sail, it looks like Roger’s event to lose, while behind the top ten is covered by about 10points. With the forecast for today a much lighter force 2, the light wind fliers may now have their day. There really is still everything to play for!
