The 9er fleets visited Ullswater Yacht Club over the weekend of 24th and 25th July for their open kindly sponsored by Orange Mountain bikes. Several of the visiting 49ers had just returned from Garda and 8 races were held over the weekend in gusty force 3 to 4 conditions. Richard Bone and Christopher Rodway from Bough Beech SC proved to be the most consistent boat in the fleet taking 3 wins on Saturday and 1 on Sunday finishing no lower than fourth in any race. Lester and Lee Noble from the home club seemed to be struggling for speed on Saturday but got into their stride more for Sunday taking 3 wins and 2 second places to finish second overall to Richard Bone whilst Stephen Wilson and Tom Dawson clearly had the boat speed, but could not master the shifting conditions finishing third overall and tying with Jonny Coates and Charlie Muir sailing for the RYA.
In the 29er fleet the Ullswater boats dominated the proceedings and in particular Julz Noble sailing with James Lyons who won all but one of the races showing superior boat speed to everyone else. Mother Anne Noble sailing with son Dylan became resolved to being runner up to her inform daughter sailing consistently with a series of second and third places to take a second overall whilst Joe Pester and Paul Murphy finished ahead of John Lyons and Michael Bonney in most races but failed to take third place due to a single win for the Lyons and Bonney team in the first race of the event.
