15-16 March 2008
22 teams representing the B14 circus arrived at Rutland for a full on weekend. Saturday morning consisted of splitting up teams with one on one training from the front of the fleet sailors followed by a mini 3 race series in the afternoon and debrief which proved very successful with different winners in each of the handicap races.
After retiring for the evening’s partying and dinner, Sunday dawned with rain and wind gusting to 39 knots at times. With racing cancelled for the day by the R/O, one B14 sailed by Nick Craig/Toby Lewis ventured out with camera/rescue boat to get some high wind full on sailing in, topping out at a sustained 20.6 knots in 30 knots of wind. Two hours and one capsize later, the intrepid team returned to shore a little worse for wear but in one piece with some great footage and photographs.
With the Nationals at Brightlingsea in late May, there is plenty happening. So check out www.b14.org for updates on sail training and our unique Buddy System updates.
If you have a B14 or know of a B14 that may not be being used and the owner would like to realise some cash by selling the boat, please contact the European B14 Class Association via the forum with details as we are actively looking for secondhand boats for new B14 sailors.
