A fluky and variable Northerly made the 70-odd sailors work hard for their places today and in the first race a superb sail by Jane Challener (Mudeford, Radial) gave her a win in the fast fleet, followed by Dave Holloway (Mudeford, Laser), Stephen Waite (Highcliffe, Megabyte) and Dave King (Keyhaven, Laser). In the second race, Max Holloway (who missed the start of race 1 due to a problem with the sealant on his boat – so he says) took the lead after a lap and the top sailors followed in his wake. The most improved performer was Annette Walter (Welwyn GC, Comet) who picked up 2 8th places after a disappointing first day.
Local sailors Sue and Alec Batten (Miracle) sailed very consistently to get a couple of 2nd places in the Slow Fleet, beaten only by Charmaine Barnett (Highcliffe, Mirror) and Leon Ward (Shearwater SC, Pegasus). The previous day’s winner, Jamie Tarrant fell back slightly to 5th, but had done enough to win the Series by one point from Charmaine, with the Battens 3rd and Peter Nicholson 4th in the Urchin. Young Ashley Redwood caught up from a series of retirements to get a great 7th place in race 2, and first Topper was Ariella Thompson in 5th.
