Jamie Tarrant leads the slow fleet after day 1 of Mudeford Week © Mike Roach
After all the rain and floods, a great day a Christchurch Harbour with sun and a F4 for the 45 sailors starting Mudeford Week. 2 races were held, with local hero Max Holloway slipping ahead of Dave, his dad, by just a few seconds with Phil Sowden 3rd in each race. Jane Challener was 'persuaded' to change rigs from a 4.7 to a Radial between races and had a cracking 4th place just one point ahead of William Lack. Youth sailors Joe Powell and Jim Sowden are tied for 7th place with another day of the weekend series to go. All boats in the top 10 were Lasers of various sorts.
In the Slow Fleet Highcliffe’s Jamie Tarrant (Topper) had 2 convincing wins with Peter and Het Nicholson in a Norfolk Urchin and Ariella Thompson in a Topper sharing second and thirds.
As usual the excellent galley made this a great event for families and spectators, with the course set only yards away from the jetty. More tomorrow!
