The third round of the Topper North Eastern Area Circuit was held at Beaver Sailing Club on June 9th. In common with many venues around the country the 17 competitors were greeted by light and testing conditions. This was a marked contrast to the windy conditions of the previous year. There was no surprise when the day started with a postponement flag. When the racing finally got underway the fleet was raring to go.

Throughout the two races that were sailed there were always places to be gained and lost. Jack Wetherell of the home club made the best of the conditions with two firsts. Having won both starts he stayed cool when the inevitable setbacks came his way. Behind him consistency counted , something that was difficult to achieve in the conditions. In the end younger brother Henry came in second overall and their mum Julie Harris was third. Adam Simms of Yeadon SC was the first visitor in fourth place, matching his result of the previous year. Alex Leonard of Sheffield Vikings sailed two good races but fell foul of the protest committee for a startline incident.

Three events and three different winners. The NE Circuit is a great series which will test everyone right through the season.
