Comet Trio & Versa Open at Kingsmead Sailing Club

Kingsmead SC hosted the opening event of the Comet Trio and Versa season on the 22nd April. Six boats attended with the ages of the participants ranging from about 7 to 70! Weather was warm and sunny, but the winds were fairly light (F2) and very variable.
The opening race was in light conditions, local sailors Chris Boutle and Mary Andrews led at the first mark and held a clear lead to the finish.
The second race was much closer with the leading three Trios closely grouped on the water and with Chris Mayne crewed by his young son Sam in the lead. However, when the results were calculated they were all beaten on handicap by Anthea Wright and Cassie Moran in the leading Versa.
The deciding third race saw Godfrey and Henry Ayres take a commanding lead in their Trio while behind a really close battle developed for second place between Chris Boutle and Eric Goodley. On the last leg Chris Boutle finally got ahead to win the event.
