The Australian entry of Darren Bundock & John Forbes are the maintaining their lead in the open event while Mitch Booth & Herbie Dercksen have taken the lead in the Europeans.

The Dutch team of Mitch Booth & Herbie Dercksen are ranked first in the world rankings and were silver medallists at the Atlanta Olympics.

The day started with excellent sea and wind conditions, blowing from the northeast. The day began with a force 2 (8-9 knots) and gradually increased to a force 4 (13-17 knots). Sailing became difficult for the 51 participants from 20 countries due to short chop off Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It wasn't the best day for the Spanish team of Fernando Echavarri & Antón Paz with a 10th & 16th position which has dropped them to 4th overall. The Gran Canaria team of José María Ponce & Ramón Illán took a fifth 5th moving them up to 19th overall.

According to the schedule, Thursday is an lay-day. Six races have been completed so the rest of the event will be completed on Friday and Saturday to decide the Tornado European Championship winner and the Open International "Mats Nyberg Trophy" winner.
