SE Topper Traveller Series 2003

Over 100 competitors have taken part in the South East Topper Traveller Series this year, covering 13 events with the best 7 to count. The series has seen a full range of weather conditions and venues which have tested a highly competent fleet to its full.

Before the final weekend, Andy Fielder from Broadwater was leading the series, but he was unable to protect his lead due to a 420 training weekend. This meant that three competitors from Downs SC had challenging points targets for the final weekend’s sailing at Crawley Mariners and Newhaven and Seaford. Katie Restall needed to just pickup 2 points from the events, which looked achievable as she won the Crawley event, but as the breeze picked up at Newhaven this was dashed and she finish a credible 3rd overall. Sam Rowe blew is 7 point target in the light inland airs of Crawley with a 9th but showed his stoicism gaining a 2nd at Newhaven to take 4th place overall. However, Robert Waite played it cool, with a 7pt target he claimed a 3rd at Crawley and then capped off the weekend and a series maiden first at Newhaven, this left Andy Fielder in 2nd place. Rob only finished once out of the top three during the series and richly deserved his prize as the South East Area Topper Traveller winner.
