63 toppers contested the Country Kitchens Irish Topper National Championships hosted by Blessington S.C. on 16th & 17 August. The championship was proceeded by a very successful two day coaching course, run by James Farrell, which was attended by 52 competitors.

The championship began in a light northerly breeze. Race 1 saw Ryan Seaton of Carrickfergus S.C. lead at the first windward mark, followed by John Colville of East Down Y.C. with the Beatty sisters, Sarah and Hannah, close behind. As the wind started to die away the course was shortened with Seaton winning from Colville, and Sarah Beatty in third just ahead of her sister, Hannah. The wind did not pick up again until mid afternoon when race 2 began with Seaton again leading at the windward mark closely followed by Anthony Murray of Ogston S.C.. Seaton pulled away on the reaching legs, winning comfortably from Julie Ryan of the local club followed by Murray in third.

Race 3 on Sunday morning began in a southerly breeze of 15 to 20 knots. Seaton took the gun followed by Rory Murphy of Quoile Y.C. in*second, and his brother Matthew in third. Murray led race 4 at the windward mark, followed by Murphy and Seaton. Seaton passed Murphy on the first reach but could not catch Murray who took the gun followed by Seaton, with Murphy in third. Race 5 saw Murray leading for most of the race from Seaton and Murphy. Murray failed to cover Seaton up the last beat and Seaton took the lead and the gun to win the championship with a comfortable margin from Murray in second and Murphy in third.
