1922 Lodge Cup at Shanklin Sailing Club

by Chris Read 14 Jul 2003 22:25 BST

Sunday's Sailing of the 1922 West Lodge Cup was sailed in an onshore Easterly breeze resulting in a reaching start.

The sixteen Dart 15 sailors successfully negotiated the first mark with Geoff Howlett leading and John Shenton second. Chris Read sporting his new mainsail had excellent boat speed and pointing angle and was up to second after the second beat. Unfortunately both Geoff and Chris sailed an incorrect course allowing John Shenton to take the lead. Erling Holmberg finally woke up and sailed through to second but did not manage to catch John Shenton who held on for the Cup win his first in a Dart 15.
