Video Footage of the Soling Final Denmark versus Germany

by Rachel Nahum on 9 Oct 2000
The Soling Match Racing final between Denmark's Jesper Bank and Germany's Jochen Schuemann was watched by large crowds at the Opera House on 30th September 2000.

The race was a close run contest to the very end where the gold medal was decided on the final run of the final race.

Schuemann lost gold in the last run when he had the ultimate penalty. He waited until the last minute to make his turn hoping that he could keep Bank back far enough. But it didn't work out. The crowd was holding its breath when Denmark's Jesper bank surfed to his second gold medal in that nail biting finish Schuemann got silver.

Final result Denmark 4 Germany 3.

See one of the most exciting sailing events from the whole Olympics for yourself on video footage from the scene.
