Me and a mate are looking to start sailing a 49er next year but the issue is that we dont know if we're tall enough. We're both around 5'7/5'8. Im doubting either of us will grow as we're both coming on 18!

So basically my question is, how important is height in sailing a boat such as a 49er? To make up for the lack of height would we have to be slightly heavier than other sailors who are taller?

Important enough that they measure righting moment to determine rack positions on boats like 800s.

So does Chris Draper but then Mark Asquith and Peter
Greenhalgh aren't exactly small.

Little helm and big crew seems to be popular on 49ers.
