Go to Blazers One-Design Racing Series

by Drew Hulton-Smith on 28 Feb 2001
The annual Go To Blazers One-Design Racing Series will be conducted by Southport Yacht Club over the weekend of Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March 2001. The
Series comprises five races on Windward/Leeward and Olympic Triangle Courses and is open to yachts of the Blazer 23 Class.

The regatta is renowned for close sailing and competition, as well as a very high standard of racing between some of the best skippers and crews in the region. The
courses are fairly tight owing to the constraints of the Broadwater, however this does offer some excellent spectator opportunities. All friends and families are invited to
come and watch the action, either on the water or from the shores of Hollywell and South Stradbroke Island.

An increased fleet is expected for the 2001 competition, and all skippers are determined to try and earn their place on the coveted trophy, dominated over the past three
years by local skipper Ben Leigh-Smith sailing Graham Jackson's boat, Urgent.

Adding to the excitement of the sailing and the nature of the event, on-water judging with the immediate imposition of penalties is employed. The Judges will be Bruce
Chapman, Vern Larsen and Patrick Scharf from Qld Yachting Association and the Principal Race Officer will be Drew Hulton-Smith.

The Notice of Race is available from Southport Yacht Club. Contact Drew Hulton-Smith, Sailing Administrator, SYC Sailing Office, Macarthur Parade, Main Beach, Qld
