Starcross Yacht Club has opened up entries for its popular Summer Junior Regatta! Junior sailors from clubs across the South West are invited to join in with four days of racing and fun on the beautiful Exe Estuary, from the 19th to 22nd of August 2023.

The event, which is in its fourth year, has gone from strength to strength, with this year set to be better than ever. The coached Silver fleet is open to any sailor who can comfortably sail upwind and navigate a triangular course, and the Gold fleet will be a competitive field with the region's top young sailing talent, including some of the winners and contenders in the recent SW Regional Championships in Torbay, likely to attend.

Last year's event saw over 30 youngsters on the water in a mix of Toppers, RS Teras, Lasers and RS Fevas, with a good showing from Paignton, and some from further away in Lyme Regis and Sidmouth.

Games and entertainment on and off the water once racing has finished are all part of this inclusive family experience and a sumptuous banquet is planned for all on the first night. Visitors are invited to camp overnight at the club, right on the waterside, and wake up to the sun rising over the Exe!

Starcross's team of dedicated and highly experienced instructors, lead by the RYA's Duncan West, will be on hand to guide, encourage and to coach the Silver Fleet sailors. Lots of prizes will be presented on the final day for the winners of the competitive events, and to recognise participation and good sporting spirit throughout the regatta.

"There is always a very relaxed atmosphere, it's a great way to introduce young sailors to their first regatta. Taking part across four consecutive days really allows them to develop and consolidate their skills and experience as well as having great fun" says Alex Farnell of the SYC Junior Sailing Committee.

Sailors must be between 8 & 18 and sailing a boat of PY 1136 and above. To find out more about the event and to enter, visit the SYC Website at: www.starcrossyc.org.uk/juniors/august-regatta
