29er Tweaking!

29er TWEAKING

P&B have a long standing history with the 29er class, most notably as sponsor to then World Champion Dylan Fletcher who has gone on to become one of the leading helms in the 49er class. Our own Ben McGrane also competed in the 29er class in its early days as a member of the first ever Youth Squad and this along with Northampton’s existing knowledge has meant P&B South has a mass of experience to help young sailors get the most from their high speed 29ers!

FOIL PACKING & ALIGNMENT
With a change to the rules recently allowing for different materials to be used for packaging foils P&B South are now offering foils packed with webbing and the lower packing done with orange goo (technical name!). This will give the best hull finish and minimal distortion of water flow where the daggerboard meets the hull. Foil alignment is also an option for those looking for the last few percent.

RUDDER SWEEP ANGLE
Whilst doing the packing we are also careful to make sure the rudder angle of sweep is set and unable to move while sailing, something Ben experienced in the B14 and is one of his absolute hates. Changes in sweep aft result in increased feel on the heel changing how the boat feels affecting how you chose to sail the boat. With enough feedback it can become near impossible to stop the boat from always wanting to bear away off wind. Getting this right in boats where the crew has the mainsheet is as important as getting your mast rake correct! We are happy to discuss with helmsman how much feedback they would like and work with them to set it accordingly.

GENERAL REPAIRS
In the past two seasons we have carried out a number of repairs on 29ers. With young sailors requirement to be back on the water quickly and the importance not to miss key training and qualifier events, our short lead time means we will make sure you are back on the water without fail with all repairs completed to a championship winning standard.

RACE SPEC
There is no question that during the time you spent in a class you discover all the little changes that make the boat that little quicker, easier to sail and most importantly to your liking. P&B South’s riggers can produce rigging to accurate lengths understanding the importance of this for rake and shroud positioning on pinned rig classes. We can also produce tapered sheets to your tailored requirements, apply pro-grip for the ultimate grip, supply hardware and general chandlery.

Got an idea on how you would like to get your 29er go a little faster? Contact Ben McGrane via email or 01489 577748 to see how we can help.

Don’t Forgot! P&B South offer a boat check and leak test for £50!! Within this service we can find leaks and identify other issues that might be slowing you down. With the workshop becoming increasingly busier through the winter months, don’t delay in booking your boat in to make sure you are ready for the 2015 season.

PARAGON AT DRAYCOTE DASH
The Paragon/P&B Merlin masts have been continuing their strong showing this year and with the top 3 Merlin’s at the Draycote Dash all choosing this super lightweight 45mm section and another 2 masts just shipped out this week we are expecting numbers in the class using these Championship winning spars to continue to grow. Alongside the spars at the Draycote Dash 2 of the top 3 Merlin teams were also powered by the latest designs from the P&B sail loft.

SCORPION BUILD READY TO GO
With our solo build now well into production...
P&B Built JP Solo!
...fulfilling current orders, the teams focus has been fully switched to the Scorpion.

Bringing the moulds in house has given us a great opportunity to not only guarantee continued supply to the class on far shorter lead times but also giving us a chance to carry out work on the moulds to make sure future boats are produced to the best standard of finish possible. Moulding will start next week on the deck while work continues on the hull. Exciting times as we anticipate completing the first boat next month.

The initial boat will hit the water during the Sailjuice series with P&B's Oli Wells at the helm giving the boat a thorough testing and also using the chance to see how the P&B high aspect rudder also performs on the boat.
