The inaugural Fat Face Night Sail takes place this weekend, Saturday July 5th in Plymouth, showcasing some of the best dinghy sailing talent in the UK.

Part of the Fat Face Night Series, the second stop of the tour will take the Night Sail to The Mountbatten Centre in Plymouth, for what promises to be a day and night of full-on competition and an awesome spectacle.

Over 200 sailors from 14 different dinghy sailing classes will be competing in short, sharp fleet races from 12-6pm on Saturday. During this time there will be continuous racing, allowing only the best through to compete in the Fat Face Night Sail finals. Spectators will be able to see some incredible sailing at close quarters between the high performance classes. Some of the confirmed racers include Mark Barnes - B14 National Champion; Paul Hillier – RS 400 National Champion and Max Richardson crewed by Alex Groves, who are the current Class Youth World Champions.

Finals will start at 20.00 and as the sun goes down the competition will hot up and sailors will be fighting tooth and sail, in neutral boats for the accolade of winning the first ever Fat Face Night Sail! Spotlights will light up the race circuit, although there will be periods where the dinghies are racing in the dark, bringing a completely new aspect to the usual racing format.

The Prize Giving for the Fat Face Night Sail will take place straight after the racing with competitors still in their kit. There will be a prize pool of £1,500 up for the podium winners. Dedicated to supporting the sport of sailing, Fat Face is also awarding £1,000 for the best class, calculated on race results.

Ian Williams, Fat Face events manager, comments: “The Night Sail is a great new event for the series, which we’re delighted to be bringing to Plymouth. Fat Face has had a very long relationship with the world of sailing over many years and this will bring a new dimension, reaching out to an even greater audience.”
