Fat Face Night Sail

by Pete Vincent 29 Mar 2008 08:10 GMT 5 July 2008

The Fat Face Night Sail is a brand new event being added to the very successful Fat Face Night Series which also includes skiing, surfing, wakeboarding, mountain boarding, windsurfing and mountain biking. You can get a good flavor of the events by looking at the clips of these events on You Tube.

The Fat Face Night Sail will take place at Mount Batten Centre, Plymouth on July 5th 2008. 14 classes are being invited to take part. Each class will be able to bring a max of 10 boats who will race in their class from 12.00 - 18.00 on a one lap team racing style course with the aim for each race to last 12-15 mins. There will be 2 courses (faster and slower) that will be relatively close to Mount Batten breakwater to allow spectators to follow the races. At the end of the qualifying series the top three from each class will go into the finals which will be held in neutral boats and into the night.

Finals will start at 20.00 right in front of the Mount Batten Centre using floodlights to illuminate a close course. Each third place in class races will race against each other in the bronze final, second place in the silver final and first in the gold final producing an overall winner.

As well as the individual event the results of each class representative in each final will be added together to produce a champion class that will win £1000 for their Class Association. The Fat Face Prize Giving will take place as competitors walk off the water still in their kit with champagne and prizes as well as big Fat Cheques awarded to the winners. Then it will be straight into a party in the marquee at Mount Batten Centre with live music and DJ.

Only a select number of classes are being approached for this inaugural year. We are expecting a great deal of interest in the event but in the unlikely event these classes do not take up their invite then we will open it up to other classes. So far the B14s, 29ers, 49ers, Larks, Laser, Laser 4000, Laser Radial and RS200/400/800/Feva/600 FF are confirmed. How the Associations select/invite competitors has been left up to them; some classes will invite the top ten from their national circuit ladder or local area circuit, top ten from last year's nationals or first come first served etc. Anyone from these classes who want to compete in the Fat Face Night Sail must contact their Class Association; please do not contact the event organisers.
