Cotswold Federation Regatta at South Cerney Sailing Club

by Art Robb 25 Apr 2003 12:24 BST

Four sailing clubs were represented at the Cotswold Federation Regatta on Easter Monday at South Cerney Sailing Club; Bowmoor Sailing Club, Cotswold Sailing Club, South Cerney Sailing Club and Whitefriars Sailing Club.

On the morning start line, those on the Committee boat saw thirty-three boats charge away on the first beat. Force 3 and 4 winds kept the boats moving well and Mark Porter and Gary Morris of SCSC won the first race in a Wayfarer.

All retired to the clubhouse for lunch and inter-club chat. In the second race, initial SCSC success must have inspired the visitors. When the final results went up, Ian Moss from WFSC had 1st place in his Blaze, Cliff and Bec Milliner from CSC took 2nd place in an RS200, and 3rd place went to Paul Dorer and Ian Robertson from BSC, also in an RS200.

Extracting the Junior results, Naomi Erskine and Dan Coates from SCSC were 3rd in a Cadet. Pete Johnson from SCSC took 2nd place in a Laser and 1st place went to Andrew Robertson and Elliot Parsons sailing an RS200 from BSC.

First Lady was won by Emma Johnson from SCSC and 1st Veteran went to Richard Saliss, Commodore of CSC.

The Inter-Club Trophy was won by SCSC for the first time since 1987. The trophy is decided by adding together the top four results from each club, lowest total wins the trophy. This year, for the first time in many years, each club had enough boats on the water to qualify for this trophy.

It was splendid to see a good turnout for this Regatta which has been held for at least 20 years. On behalf of the SCSC Sailing Committee, I'd like to thank all the Federation members who made the effort to attend and compete in the regatta.
