On Saturday, 5 April, Bough Beech Sailing Club hosted their annual Laser open. This event was also the first leg of the UKLA south east travellers series. Simon Winn, the Race Officer for the day, had little difficulty in taking full advantage of the near perfect sailing conditions. With a 10 - 15 kt northerly breeze filling the length of the lake, the race committee was able to fit five closely fought races into the day. Brilliant sunshine attracted forty competitors, leading to packed start li nes. This meant that the black flag rule was enforced in many of the races, leading to a few disqualifications.

The sometimes gusty conditions and shorter races led to unpredictable finishes, with a different sailor winning each race. At the end of the day it was Ian Gregory from Frensham who took the overall win. Martin Brooking (BBVC) followed in second place, and local sailor Andrew Peake filled the third position. Mark Heather (BBSC) was the first radial home, and another home club sa ilor, Sonya Riley won the ladies category.
