Sunday 20th October 2002

Victory for X Parrot, Dragonstar, Big Boys Toys, and Kokomo

The second race of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Winter series on Sunday 20 October saw an easterly breeze of around 15 to 20 knots.

The Race Management Team of Kirsteen Donaldson, David Giddings, Geoff Lynch, Andrew Paterson, Sue Lamb and John Greenway set the Committee Boat off the Fawley shore.

The multihulls were set away at 1000 and after a close tussle which saw four different boats in the lead, Corsair F28R Carbon Tiger (Brian Haynes) was first to finish with Dragonfly 800 Kokomo (James Stewart) coming through to take corrected time victory from F28R Shakatak (Pete Jenkins).

In Class 1 racing under IRC, Tim and Chris Octon’s Corby 35 Njos took line honours but Mike Garvey’s X Parrott X332 won by over three minutes on corrected time from Njos, with Edward Broadway’s Jeanneau OD35 Hooligan third.

Class 2 IRC, saw Roger Townsend’s Jones-designed Prism 25 Backchat take line honours but Dragonstar, Brian Yeomans’ Nicholson 345 came through to take handicap honours by two and a half minutes with Hooligan Steve Sault’s Sigma 33 second and Backchat third.

Class 3 – racing under club handicap, line and corrected time honours were taken by Hunter 707 Big Boys Toys (Andrew Percival), with Michael Perrin’s Sigma 33 Iskareen second and third Close Encounter, Chris Waddington’s Ufo 27.
