Lark Open Meeting at Bartley Sailing Club

by Bob Suggitt 1 Oct 2002 17:22 BST

Bob and Mandy Suggitt won the penultimate meeting of the Lark travellers series, held at Bartley S.C. on the 29th Sept. 17 visitors were greeted with a warm sunny day and a gusty, shifty force 3 breeze.

Race 1 saw Dougal Scott and Ruth Johnson establish an early lead, followed by Richard Bennett and Jane Alexander and Chris and Rachel Jenkins. In spite of much place changing behind, these threeheld their positions and finished in that order.

In race 2, Bob and Mandy Suggitt lead from start to finish, followed by Scott/ Johnson and Richard Dowsett and Steph Calvin and Bennett/Alexander.

Race 3 was the interesting one. The start signals at the club couldn`t be seen or heard from the start line at the other end of the pond, with the main sufferers being Scott/Johnson. However their protest was dismissed on the grounds that the race officer didn`t make a procedural error, and no one could find a rule that said the race had to be fair. Dowsett/Calvin,the Suggitts and the Jenkins took full advantage and finished in that order.
