BARLO PLASTICS MUMM 36 BEATS OPPOSITION AT 1999 GROUP 4 NORTH SEA REGATTA

Barlo Plastics successfully saw off strong competition to win overall in the Mumm 36 Class at the four-day Group 4 North Sea Regatta in Scheveningen, Holland. The final day’s racing saw a good start for Barlo Plastics, the Mumm 36 boat in the Chernikeeff British Team who will be competing at this year’s Champagne Mumm Admiral’s Cup in July.

Barlo Plastics cleared the first mark by a long way in the 3hr long Fjellstö Race, ahead of ‘Mean Machine’, then followed by ‘Moby Lines’. Adrian Stead and his crew extended downwind in the next two legs, followed by a seven mile beat against the tide.

The Mumm 36 Class, whilst only a small fleet, has seen some highly competitive racing. The Dutch ‘Mean Machine’ took first place in the final day of the closely fought regatta, with Italian ‘Moby Lines’ in second. Barlo Plastics claimed third on a day of grey skies, when a firm cold breeze, 17 - 22 knots from the South West hit the Dutch coast of Scheveningen.

Commenting on their overall performance, Adrian Stead said: "We have come out on top, having shown consistently good crew work and boat speed. We are now looking forward to continuing our success at the Mumm 36 World Championships at Kiel, where we’ll also have our new mast."
