New 24hr record ratified for Maiden II - but not so far
by John Reed 27 Jun 2002 11:49 BST
The WSSR was not able to ratify the original claim (of 697 nm) by Maiden 2 as the last position report was 2 minutes over the 24 hours.
However the WSSR requires that additional position reports are made prior to, and following the record claim and, from these our Council members were able to identify a 24 hour pairing which has resulted in the existing record (PlayStation 687.17 nm) being broken.
We are very pleased therefore to announce the following:
LONGEST DISTANCE SAILED IN 24 HOURS - OUTRIGHT WORLD RECORD
- Yacht: Maiden 11
- Owned by: Tracy Edwards.
- Sailed by: Brian Thompson, Helena Darvelid, Adrienne Cahalan and a crew of 10
- Dates: 12th and 13th June 2002.
- Distance sailed: 694.78 nm
- Average speed: 28.95 kts
