Cadet World Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina - Day 2

by Roger Wilson 2 Jan 2002 08:22 GMT

Race 2

After a stormy night with heavy rainful, the competitors were launched on time in overcast conditions with light wind.

With the strong tide pushing boats away from the line, the fleet were all clear at the first start. In shifty conditions it became clear that the left side of the beat was favoured.

GBR 9040 Simon Lambert & David Brewer went round the first mark in 7th with GBR 9000 Pippa Wilson, GBR 8528 Iain Watson and GBR 8846 James Hughes close behind.

In the second beat, conditions became very light and it was a struggle to keep momentum through the heavy chop against the tide in shifting conditions. GBR 8528 made significant gains and rounded 6th followed by GBR 9040.

In the final beat the wind became more variable and big changes on positions were made. GBR 8519 Gray & Dallimore sailed well to hold 16th position with GBR 8997 Wade, Sudell making strong gains to finish 18th. Simon Lambert & David Brewer were the first British Boat again finishing 14th.

Race 3

After a very long wait in the strong afternoon sun, race three got underway under the black flag following a general recall.

All of the british boats started well, close together in the top 20 positions.

The conditions then become lighter and more shifty although once again the left side of the beat tended to be favoured other than on the last beat.

The British team held some good positions in the early teens, with the Argentinian team once again showing a strong performance.
