Good conditions for Race 2

The second day of racing of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club's Winter series saw good conditions with the sun trying to make an appearance. The Race Management Team set the start line off Netley in a north-westerly breeze which peaked at around 12 knots.

The multihulls were first away with Richard Roscoe's 32ft Farrier Triohe leading on the water until a course error right at the end of the race. After a few boats were forced to retire due to failing to go through the finish line at the end of a lap it was James Stewart on Dragonfly Kokomo who took line honours and corrected time victory by 62 seconds.

Class 1, the bigger IRC rated boats was also affected by some boats falling by the wayside, two boats were over the start line early and failed to return while four boats retired. First to finish was Charles Allen's J/105 Fay-J but beaten into second place by Geoff Lynch's Stewart 36 The Red Dragon came through to take victory on corrected by nearly seven minutes. With John Webb's First 37 Spirit of Plane Sailing third.

Class 2, the smaller IRC boats saw Roger Townsend's Stephen Jones-designed Prism 25 Backchat first to finish but beaten into second place by Steve Sault's Sigma 33 Hooligan by two and half minutes, with Tony Hanfrey's Mustang 30 Revival II third.

Class 3, the faster club-rated boats saw Stephen and Rena Lineker's Dehler 43 first to finish by over five minutes but it was Peter and Flavia Bateson on Sonar 24 Fiscal which won on corrected time by 48 seconds from Jonathan Meeson's Trapper Fantastic Mr Fox, with third Big Boys Toys the Hunter 707 of Andrew Percival.

Class 4, also Club-rated, saw Sadler 29 Zumbido first to finish but beaten by two minutes 45 seconds on corrected time by the little Micro 18 Urchin II of Richard Walker which is going well with a new genoa. Third was Janet Willment's classic workboat Momento.
