Tasar Open Meeting at Llangorse Sailing Club

Llangorse continues to be a popular venue for Tasars. Avid crews travelled from as far away as Brightlingsea (7 hours!) for the event and over 20 boats took part in the weekend.

Race Officer, Colin Fletcher faced a tough task in light and shifting airs spinning off Pen y Fan mountain – but took some calculated risks and succeeded beyond expectation to achieve 5 good races.

The first race saw some cheeky port-end starters build a strong advantage, including King Prawn, 1275, and Hoof Hearted, 1167 – hotly pursued by Bluetack, 1304 who tenaciously ground them down to win – setting a pattern to take the second race with burgeoning confidence.

Day 2 began in drifting conditions, and while Fletcher sniffed for any signs of approaching air, several prematurely packed-up. But a steady breeze filled-in from the South giving competitors the longest and best possible beat on the lake.

Local experts, Red Roses, 2518 and Insuprapetimus, 429, took the initiative to stop Bluetack’s dominance, but he had done-well to recover from a less favourable start to pull-up to third.

In the fourth, Bluetack and Red Roses tussled from start to finish having built a considerable lead from Insuprapetimus - hotly pursued by Aotearoa, 2350 and Hoof Hearted, 1167. Insuprapetimus sadly was forced to retire with a helm’s injury – he was catch of the day for a fisherman lying in ambush on the down-wind leg!

The breeze held in the last which saw a surprise attack from another local ‘Allo Allo 2159 – a young crew set to provide a real challenge to the old guard of the fleet. But David and Alex Morgan in Red Roses, showed their real consistent quality in winning by a considerable margin – an emphatic final punctuation mark to the Llangorse Open – and this report.
