The Virtual Spectator Race Tracker software for the Volvo Ocean Race is now available for
download and purchase. The race starts from Southampton, UK, on Sunday, September 23rd.
Working in collaboration with the Volvo Ocean Race, Virtual Spectator has produced a 3D Internet viewer that is ready for download now from the Volvo Ocean Race website at
www.volvooceanrace.org or the Virtual Spectator website at www.virtualspectator.com.
This subscription-based viewer features regular position data, weather, editorial content, photos and audio to allow fans to follow this ocean going event at any time, anywhere.
Users will take control of what they watch, zooming and selecting a variety of aerial and water level perspectives. Simple tape recorder style controls, including fast-forward, reverse and stop,
will allow users to analyze key tactical moves. The weather overlay will show real-time interactive weather charts, including forecast changes extending out 60 hours.
Existing VS subscribers with software for the Vendee Globe will only need to update their existing viewers to the latest version by downloading a software patch and paying the subscription price.
There are two options available. The VS Standard package includes all of the regular VS features, including positions, animated weather, text commentary and photos, for US$19.95. The VS Premium
package for US$29.95 has all the regular features plus daily audio commentary. The coverage of the first three days of Leg One is free and will continue to be available for demonstration purposes after 25 Sept. After viewing the opening three days of the race, users can purchase either version through the application at any time.
Virtual Spectator has also provided the Volvo Ocean Race with software to create 3D animations for the television coverage of the event.
