29er National Championships at Plym Yacht Club Overall

by Dave Hall 17 Aug 2001 09:06 BST

Current World, European and last years National Champions John Pink and Tom Weeks continued their superb run of victories by taking the 2001 Gul 29er Championships. The last day of racing gave the competitors sunshine and a 20 knot breeze making for fantastic sailing and racing conditions. The Danish team of Helle and Lars Orun Neilson showed the depth of internatinal competition by finishing the series 2nd.

In the Silver fleet Tom Stuart and Tom Evans sailed very well to keep off the competition from Will Crocker and Phil Bacon. It was noted that the Silver fleet looked like the top of most championship fleets!

The most suuccessful 29er championship in the UK to date wth 50 boats sailing it made for one very orange spectacle in Plymouth Sound. The class can only go on and up from here.
