The UK-based performance clothing specialist, Gill, has been signed up by the illbruck Challenge as Technical Clothing Supplier for the America's Cup 2003.
"This is a significant vote of confidence in the Company, the brand and the consistent quality of our performance clothing," commented Nick Gill, Chairman of Gill.
"We have been working hard with the illbruck team for two years on all aspects of their technical clothing for the VOR campaign, and being selected to continue this relationship for the America's Cup is a fantastic result for everyone within the Company," said Nick Gill.
Gill is already supplying the illbruck Challenge with all of its technical
clothing for the Volvo Ocean Race which starts from Southampton this
September. However, the technical clothing brief for the next America's Cup
certainly differs from the VOR.
America's Cup racing demands lighter weight fabrics which will serve to
provide the best protection and freedom of movement for warm weather
short-distance racing. The crew will be more active for shorter periods of
time and Gill will be matching their clothing needs with the very latest
developments in fabric technology and clothing design.
Whilst Gill will continue in its role as technical clothing supplier to the
illbruck Challenge, outfitting the team with technical gear for both the
Volvo Ocean Race and America's Cup 2003, New Zealand clothing company Line 7
will be the team's clothing supplier. Line 7 will have responsibility for
selling official illbruck Challenge merchandise worldwide and it will
operate a supporters store located at the team's America's Cup base in
Auckland.
