Signet Open Meeting at Paxton Lakes Sailing Club

by Jenny Overs 4 Jun 2001 08:29 BST

2nd & 3rd June

Gusty north-easterly winds met SigneT sailors for their Open Meeting at Paxton Lakes. The two day meeting was closely fought with many changes of position within races, leaders falling back and tail enders pulling up the fleet with surprising regularity.

On Saturday Mike Baker and Keith Hatton, Joyce and Frank Cowern and Richard Cannon and Robert Britton all won races, Mike winning the day on discard from Richard. With two third places John Pratt and Chrissy Eade weren't far behind. Graham and Sarah Farley, Michael Overs and Mark Cowling, Joyce, Steve Leeding and Tom Field and Lizzy Overs and Ben Mitchell all capsized at some point in tricky conditions.

On Sunday conditions were slightly kinder. Richard won the first two races convincingly, but behind him Joyce and Mike again fought it out finishing joint second. Chris Whiteside, John Pratt and Sam Anderson Brown and Patrick Overs fought it out in the middle of the fleet, all except juniors Michael Overs and Ben Mitchell keeping dry for the journey home.
