Carrickfergus Sailing Club Spring Series Overall

by Betty Armstrong 2 May 2001 17:45 BST

Despite a very cold late winter, fifteen boats turned out for the six race Spring series at Carrickfergus which ended on the 29th April, including three Hurricane 5.9 cats.

In IRC 1 John McClure's 'Jackpot' was the best of the two J35s, sailing the whole series, and winning four of the races to finish three points ahead of the Douglas brothers in 'Jacana'. PY also had two starters and here the McClenaghan and Shields partnership dominated in 'Maximeyes'.

'Martingale' (N. Thompson) just pipped 'Blath-na-mara' in Restricted Sail and in the multihulls, Peter and Lisa Waugh finished ahead by two points despite a retirement and a non-start.

The Flying Fifteens had the best turnout with six crossing the line and here Steve Atkinson and Johnny Craig in 'Hyperion' took top place. Second was Alan MccLernon and Peter Weir in 'Coral 1v' who had more firsts but had to count an AVG and a non-finish, coming in 1.25 behind the winner.
