Plymouth Gin Spring Series at Royal Plymouth Corinthian YC

A howling southeasterly, heavy rain and poor visibility greeted the committee boat as it motored out into Plymouth Sound on Sunday morning for the last race of the RPCYC's Plymouth Gin Spring Series. Concerns about competitor safety were reinforced when the windspeed increased to a steady 35 knots and waves started breaking over the bow of the committee boat, which was already doing a good impression of a bucking bronco. Any attempt to anchor in a suitable location for a start line was doomed to failure and the windward mark laying boat had completely disappeared from view before it had gone more than half a mile upwind. Abandonment was the only option and the Series was decided on the three results already in the bag.
